Aptly nicknamed the "Paris of the Prairies", Saskatoon is a large city located in central Saskatchewan near the South Saskatchewan River. This urban area boasts big-city attractions alongside lush recreation areas, making it a must-see for urbanites and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Whether you want to cruise down the river and take in the tree-lined banks or break in that new pair of ice skates, Saskatoon offers an abundance of outdoor activities year-round.

When you book an RV in Saskatchewan and visit Saskatoon, you'll find no shortage of fun experiences both in town and in the surrounding area. While you're exploring the region, make a stop in North Battleford and tour some of the city's historic buildings. Saskatoon is only about an hour and a half from Prince Albert. Vanscoy is a smaller town located about 30 minutes away from Saskatoon and has wonderful shops and restaurants.

The Great Outdoors

Saskatoon has plenty of outdoor space for visitors to enjoy. Wanuskewin Heritage Park is located just outside Saskatoon and honors the history of the First Nations people through artwork and storytelling. Wanuskewin Heritage Park has many archaeological sites that are even older than the Egyptian pyramids. Visitors can take guided tours through some of the archaeological sites. Once you've learned about First Nations culture and history, take a stroll down the hiking trail network. Six kilometers (just under four miles) of trails meander through the park, leading past some of the archeological sites and the South Saskatchewan River.

Once you find an RV rental near Saskatoon, head over to Pike Lake Provincial Park just south of Saskatoon. Popular pastimes here include camping, hiking, biking, and fishing. The park's nature trails offer a variety of easy, accessible pathways that put hikers up close with the area's biodiverse ecosystems. The Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo was originally known as the Dominion Forest Nursery Station and then the Sutherland Forest Nursery Station before being renamed once again. The forestry farm began as a tree nursery, which then transformed into a forest as the trees matured. Today, the farm park and zoo houses gardens, woodlands, and fully restored buildings from the original tree nursery. The zoo provides a habitat for over 300 animals, including big cats, bears, deer, sheep, and caribou.

Camping in Saskatoon

Modern bathrooms and shower facilities are centrally located within the campground. A sewage dump station is also located near the entrance.

Exploring the City

Remai Modern showcases modern and contemporary art, supports local artists, and specializes in artwork that portrays 21st-century culture. This museum also supports the indigenous communities of Canada and encourages artists to push forward with contemporary artwork. Visitors can enjoy an interactive experience while visiting Remai Modern, especially children, who can create their own artistic masterpieces.

Saskatoon is also home to one of the locations of the Western Development Museum, one of the largest history museum networks in Saskatchewan. There are over 75,000 artifacts divided among four locations. The Western Development Museum – Saskatoon boasts over 18,000 artifacts, including fully restored locomotives. The museum in Saskatoon centers on the 1910 Boomtown that helped shape the city and its surrounding area. Visitors can wander through the exhibits and even participate in a few interesting and interactive displays throughout the museum.

Trainspotters will want to explore the Saskatchewan Railway Museum while visiting Saskatoon. The museum is only open from May through the first weekend of September. Guided tours are available, or visitors can wander through on their own and enjoy the exhibits. There are several locomotives that have been fully restored and displayed. Visitors can get a closer look by touring the sleeper car on display.
