Matilda is the Gen 1 2020 Meerkat trailer made for traveling light on or off grid. At a gross weight of 900 pounds, most sedans can easily handle it. You can stand up inside, and the pop-top means there's plenty of room for tall folks. Far more spacious inside than it looks on the outside, Matilda has a little bit of everything. The table and bench seating converts easily to a queen size bed ready for your own bedding. With windows all around, a pop-up canvas ceiling, an exhaust fan, and portable space heater, you'll be comfortable in any weather. In the front of the trailer is a pump sink and storage cabinets to keep cooking and personal supplies. The included one-burner propane stove is adequate for most meals and we provide a full kitchen kit so you just bring food. (Email us for Kitchen Kit inventory.)The mini fridge is actually an icebox that keeps food cold for days. You put a bag of ice on the top shelf and food below it. If you're away from electric power for a night, you don't have to worry about keeping your food cold. When you have campground power, you can run appliances from the electric outlets. Most trailers this size don't have a toilet. The Meerkat has a Porta Potti that you can use in the trailer but we prefer putting it outside under the pop-up standing tent for privacy. The Meerkat is so light it's easy to forget you're towing anything. It's nimble and easy to manage. Make sure your car has a towing capacity of at least 1500lbs (most do). We'll help you get the right hitch and wiring. Most of our renters (and family members) are first-time towers. We think you'll love it as much as we do.

We've been tent camping and traveling for years--cross country, Colorado, Oregon, and Texas. We wanted to keep our footprint small so decided on the Meerkat. It's easy to pull and park, and fun to use.

Q.What flexibility is available for picking up and dropping off the RV?
R.
We can do hand-offs from 3pm-8pm M-F and 7am-8pm Saturday, Sundays, and holidays. If that doesn't work, please contact us and we'll try to work something out.

Q.What if we can't back up into the camp site?
R.
No worries. Get as close as you can and then move the trailer by hand. This really only works if the camp site is flat, so please use common sense.

Q.Do we have to deal with the Porta-potti?
R.
We usually don't! When the campground bathrooms are nice, we prefer to use them. But if you're boondocking (off the grid), it might come in handy.

Q.How big is the ice box?
R.
It's a standard mini-fridge size but about 25% of the space is taken by the ice on the top shelf. For longer trips or hearty eaters/drinkers we suggest taking an extra cooler.
