Meet Mabel—a 2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 170 AWD built for families who want to explore without leaving comfort, storage or flexibility behind.
Originally outfitted by Bitterroot Builds in Salt Lake City, then tested and refined through real family travel.
Mabel seats five in proper belted seats: two front seats and three independently positioned captain’s chairs with integrated seat belts and Latch/Isofix connections. Her modular layout can change with your trip, creating more living space, dining space or a large rear garage for bikes, strollers and adventure gear.
At camp, the elevator bed lowers from the ceiling without requiring you to rebuild the entire van each night. A Murphy-style single bed converts into a bench, and the flexible dinette provides additional sleeping and lounging space. When morning comes, raise the elevator bed and your living space returns—without packing away every blanket and pillow.
Mabel was designed for real family travel in every season. She includes rear air conditioning, Under front passenger diesel heat, a large off-grid electrical system, solar power, an indoor kitchen, microwave, induction cooktop, refrigerator and plenty of family-friendly storage. In fact the storage can also change depending on whether you plan for an indoor shower or not. Exterior shower also available. Roof-mounted exterior lights illuminate the slider entrance after dark. Built-in Mercedes-Benz navigation helps when cell service disappears, while SiriusXM keeps the whole family entertained between stops.
We started Mabel Vans after renting and traveling in other vans with our own children. Every trip taught us something: kids need safe seats, families need room for gear, and nobody wants to dismantle the whole van just to go to sleep. Then we had a third child—and we didn’t want to sacrifice adventure simply because our family had grown.
Mabel has already been tested on family road trips through national parks, monuments and everything from mountain weather to Utah desert heat. She is built for families, tested by kid chaos and continually refined on the road.
Whether you’re heading to Utah’s national parks, skiing in the Wasatch, visiting relatives or taking the kids on their first van adventure, Mabel gives you a comfortable, capable home base for the journey.Ce qui est inclus• Fully equipped kitchen with cookware, dishes, utensils and basic spices
• Refrigerator, microwave and induction cooktop
• Family-friendly plates, cups and silverware
• Fresh bedding and sleeping essentials

• Built-in Mercedes-Benz navigation—helpful when traveling beyond reliable cell service
• SiriusXM satellite radio included
• Cleaning supplies and basic campsite necessities
• Children’s games and national-park books available upon requestRecommandationsSalt Lake City is arguably one of the best starting points for exploring Utah and the surrounding Mountain West. For a shorter trip, head into the Wasatch Mountains for hiking, mountain lakes and scenic drives around Park City, Big Cottonwood Canyon or Little Cottonwood Canyon. Families can combine mountain time with Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake. The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium and Natural History Museum of Utah are excellent rest-day activities—especially when everyone needs a break from driving or the weather doesn’t cooperate. With more time, create a southern Utah loop through Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon and Zion, or travel toward Moab for Arches and Canyonlands. Stop at Goblin Valley State Park along the way—a wonderfully strange landscape that we think deserves national-park status—or continue toward Lake Powell.Northern and western Utah offer entirely different adventures. Visit Dinosaur National Monument, hunt for fish fossils near Kemmerer, Wyoming, or create a rockhounding trip around Topaz Mountain, U-Dig Fossils and the Dugway Geode Beds. Kids can search for trilobites, topaz and bucketfuls of geodes while exploring places many Utah visitors never see.We have traveled extensively with our own children and are happy to help guests create a realistic route—including drive times, kid-friendly stops, places to restock and when an RV-park night might make the trip easier.Autres points à signalerNo smoking or vaping inside Mabel.
Mabel’s modular layout can be configured around your passenger, sleeping and storage needs. The beds are easy to convert, but each captain’s chair weighs approximately 40–50 pounds and takes some effort to reposition safely. Please tell us who is traveling, the ages of any children, which car seats you need and what large gear you plan to bring so we can prepare the best configuration before pickup.
Car seats, a booster seat and select family or outdoor gear must be requested in advance and are subject to availability.
Let us know if you'd like a Laveo dry flush toilet and we'll figure out number of cassettes.
Roof-mounted exterior lights illuminate the slider entrance and the area immediately beside the van after dark.
We will provide a complete orientation before departure, including how to operate the beds, seating, climate controls, electrical system and kitchen equipment.

We’re a Salt Lake based family of 5. Mabel is the van we use for our own year-round adventures—with 3 kids, a dog, and ALL That Gear.
We love exploring together and appreciate what makes trips easier: using iOverlander to find free BLM campsites with a view, warming homemade stew in the microwave, and using Cabbunks so we don’t have to convert the dinette every day. We bring Twister and glow-in-the-dark Kan Jam for time at camp, and made a reusable state and national park scavenger hunt to keep even our 4-year-old’s eyes glued outside.
Mabel is shaped by those experiences. We’re always learning what works, what we actually use, and what makes family travel feel less like parenting elsewhere, more like a family vacation. We want to share that with other families, including the small extras that can make a difference when packing for kids.
Tell us who’s coming and what you’re hoping to do. We’re happy to talk through sleeping arrangements, gear, and how to make Mabel work for your trip.
