Our 2022 Airstream Interstate Grand Lounge is opulent and powerful. Built on the venerable Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 4x4 chassis, there isn't a back road or mountain pass you can't comfortably climb in absolute style.
Our daughter gave the Airstream several nicknames: "the dinosaur," "the campy," "the big black bus." She's three so I have to give her a lot of credit for creativity.
Being a brand new Airstream you will find tons of amenities. Everything is powered including the window shades, the sliding door, the awning, and the seats/bed. A premium sound system connects via bluetooth or plays the audio from either of the two large TV's. You can comfortably watch from the four swivel captains chairs up front, or recline on the rear bench that converts to a king size bed. There are three control panels throughout the cabin so you don't have to move from that perfect spot to change any settings.
The included components that really make this a luxury camping experience are: whisper-quiet on-board generator for powering the a/c, microwave, and charging any electronics; inverter for running TV's, powering outlets, and putting on a camp concert; large prep counter with full sink and two-burner propane stove; a propane heater and water heater; and a full wet bath.
Driving the "Dinosaur" is easy. Mercedes-Benz is known for their comfort, safety, and technology, and it all comes standard on our Airstream. Adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist make cruising a breeze. A massive dashboard screen includes satellite navigation and radio, bluetooth, and vehicle settings. Multiple overlapping views come from the four different rear-facing cameras, giving you an unparalleled ability to see traffic, trees, or the lake shore as you cruise along or back into the perfect spot.
Once you've parked, the Airstream's stabilizing jacks automatically find the exact level position. You can control every aspect of making camp from the screens inside.

Overall good experience. Owner of the van was wonderful, communicated well, and the van was in excellent condition.
There a few bugs here and there but nothing major; squeaky door, awning sensor, and leveling controller - we either figured things out or the owner was able to help.
Things we loved- comfortable drive/ride, fairly easy to park for the size, the cameras/mirror/sensor system is crazy awesome, dirt road were no problem at a reasonable speed, cooling system great, head/shower convenient though small (better than a pit toilet and nice to rinse off after a sweaty hike), kitchen functional for size of van, sound system awesome, awning helpful and mostly easy, auto leveling system was the best and fun, adding water and pump out was pretty seamless, easy, and fast, screens on most venting windows and the side and rear door were outstanding, auto blinds were convenient as well, storage was pretty good for the two of us, generator easy and pretty efficient, overall good gas mileage.
Things we would improve-
We would recommend an extra sleeping pad as while the very comfortable seats fold back to make huge bed, you feel the seat contours so it is not a true flat mattress. We stacked up a comforter and sleeping bag under us and that helped. A front windshield sun reflector would help keep it cooler as the whole vehicle got pretty hot sitting in the sun even on a 70 degree day if we needed to close the windows for security, we MacGyvered a sheet between the coat hooks to keep the dun out and for privacy in the larger crowded campsites. The cooking pots and pans are serviceable though small and dish soap, sponge, and two kitchen towels (which we bought at first stop) would help keep things clean. Not sure how we would have cleaned dishes if we hadn’t picked up those items. Tge storage is good but the upper compartments got pretty hot if the van was out in the sun at all. We needed to adjust were we stored some food items. These were all minor things but we thought we would share our take. There is no perfect vehicle.
We loved being able to be flexible to go or stay depending on weather, mood, or want and enjoyed the experience. Owner was fantastic!
