Betty is the second campervan in the Sun + Salt fleet. A newly converted 2018 Ram Promaster 2500 camper van with a beautiful interior for a cozy home-away-from-home experience. With brand new, high-end features and only the best materials, make your adventure around the Big Island meaningful during the day and restful at night.Betty fits a full bed, large sink with a manual foot pump, efficient fridge (+freezer), a stationary solar shower on the outside of the vehicle, ventilation fan for a cooler night, a butane stove, and swivel seats with a lagun table for eating inside if it's rainy out.Betty has two 100 AH batteries that are charged via 400watts from the solar panels and off the alternator (ie. you won't run out of battery!). If you hotspot off your phone, she's a great place to work remote from.Ce qui est inclusBetty includes: fresh linens, towels, kitchenware and cookware, french press, utensils, portable camping stove and propane (can use inside or outside), and an outdoor mat to help keep things clean. She is set with all the kitchen amenities you could need for cooking three meals a day (french press, wine opener, can opener, utensils, plates, cups, bowls, skillets, pots, and more!).For additional charges, Betty can include:
Two camping/beach chairs
Large beach umbrella
Surf board
Inflatable Paddle Board
Two boogie boards
Two floatation inner-tubesSome details you won’t see, but will benefit from include non-toxic havelock sheeps wool insulation to keep the van cooler longer, prevent moisture, and reduce noise from outside while you sleep. RecommandationsThey don’t call the island of Hawai’i “The Big Island” for nothing - it’s huge! Exploring via camper van is one of the best ways to see all the sites and avoid excessive driving (and costs) between your lodging and next adventure. If you’ve rented a camper van on the mainland before, you should know it’s a little different on the Big Island. It’s technically illegal to sleep in a vehicle in public spaces. I have put together a map of spots on the island where you could park overnight - secret spots, campgrounds that you will need to obtain a permit beforehand, and places to park in a pinch. My renters have had no issues with just a little bit of forethought and being mindful of where I park overnight. I give you everything you need to plan in advance (the more you prep, the better your stay will be!).Autres points à signalerPickup and Drop off: Pickup is after 4pm or later and dropped off by 10 am.Pets are welcome!
If you can find a festival, you are welcome to take her there!
No smokingProhibited areas:
Due to Betty not having 4WD, you are not permitted to take her to Makalawena Beach, Green Sands Beach, Waipio Valley, or past the Visitor Center at Mauna Kea. You may hire local services to take you to these locations in a 4x4 vehicle. The van is equipped with a GPS that will alert us if she is in any of these locations, at which point you will be fined $1,000 in addition to the cost of any damage to the vehicle (which there undoubtedly will be, assuming you are even able to get the van back to the road, which you will not).

We stayed in Betty for 8 nights, 9 days and it was terrific.

Hey Elizabeth! Thanks so much for the review and I'm sorry to hear about the jet boil fuel (our cleaner is supposed to include a tank of fuel for ya), happy to refund you for the add-on :)

Van was really well equipped with everything we needed! We were a little worried about the size of the bed, but it was super comfortable (my husband said his back did not hurt at all, which is rare for him). Bri was very responsive during the trip when we had questions or issues came up. The gas tank was a little quirky filling it up. It registered full then would drop below full. Not sure why. But overall great gas mileage. We stayed at 4 places along our trip: Spencer Beach (facilities dated but ok), a Hip Camp (Wild Blue Water: awesome) near Hawaiian Beaches, Volcanoes Nat’l Park (facilities dated but a place to sleep), and Ho’Okena Beach Park (awesome!!!).

Thanks so much for the kind review, Patricia! And for sharing where you stayed - I know that is always so helpful for other guests to see :) and I'm so glad the bed was a win for your husband's back! I love hearing that!

We had an incredible time exploring the Big Island with Betty! Everything in the van has been thought through with extreme care and detail. Bri was an excellent host. Communication was always easy and she offered great recomendations and advice on where to camp. We made memories we will never forget, and are so glad that we were able to experience the magic of the Big Island with Betty! Thank you Bri!

We absolutely loved our time in the camper van! Bri was so helpful through our trip if we needed direction about the van or finding places to visit around the Big Island. Highly suggest renting from her!
