With beautiful Lake Windermere right on your doorstep, there's no better place to start an adventure in your Invermere motorhome rental than the lake itself. A hive of activity in the summer months, the lake is actually a very wide portion of the Columbia River and has an average depth of 15 feet. During the warmer weather, you might like to hit the beach for a cooling swim or enjoy a leisurely kayak around the lake to take in the backdrop of stunning mountain peaks. And if you visit during winter, the Lake Windermere Whiteway is an 18-mile multi-use trail for ice skating and cross-country skiing.
One way to experience the best way the lake has to offer is to head to James Chabot Provincial Park, located on the northern shore. This 35-acre park has a wide sandy beach where you can stretch out and catch some sun, or better yet, indulge in a variety of water sports. Swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and windsurfing are all popular here, while there's also an adventure playground to keep the kids happy.
Of course, with the Rockies and the Purcell Mountains both within easy reach of Invermere, your trip wouldn't be complete without checking out some spectacular mountain scenery. One great way to do this is to head east out of town to the Swansea Mountain Recreation Site. After driving close to the summit of Mt. Swansea — you'll need to rent an RV with high clearance to do this — you can then tackle a short hike to the summit. At an altitude of just over 5,600 feet, it pales in comparison to the Rockies, but the view from the top is simply breathtaking.
After you pick up your Invermere RV rental, you'll need to find somewhere to stay. However, with Invermere being something of a vacation hotspot, the city provides plenty of options.
One venue worth considering is the Sun Valley RV Park, located a short drive away in Windermere. This family-run RV park mostly caters to returning guests, but does rent out a small number of sites to overnight visitors. Sites offer power and water hookups. Additional amenities include a dump station and shower houses.
A little further south, Shadybrook Resort also sits right on the lakefront. A small number of full-hookup sites are available, and campers can make use of the resort's beach. A marina, Wi-Fi, and shower and laundry facilities are also provided.
Or if you'd rather head north towards Radium Hot Springs, you might like to set up camp at The Canyon RV Resort. Designed for families and seniors craving peace and quiet, this pretty campground sits in wooded surrounds alongside a stream. Choose between full hookups or power and water sites for your Invermere camper rental. Fire pits and picnic tables are also provided.
Invermere is the perfect base from which to set out and explore a host of nearby attractions, and one of the best of them would have to be Radium Hot Springs. Located around five minutes outside of the town that shares the same name, these springs are found in Kootenay National Park and are a must-visit destination. There's plenty of room in the hot pool when you want to enjoy a relaxing soak, while the swimming pool is also a big hit with kids.
If you'd rather do some exploring in and around Invermere itself, be sure to stop in at the Windermere Valley Museum. Home to heritage buildings and beautiful lake and mountain views, this charming local museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the early days of this popular region of British Columbia. The museum features archival photographs and documents, an old schoolhouse and general store, and an old pioneer cabin.
One final reason you might want to visit Invermere is to check out the Wings Over the Rockies Festival. Held in May, this eagerly anticipated annual event draws keen birders from far and wide. The event celebrates the hundreds of bird species that call this part of Canada home and includes guided nature walks, paddling tours, and a whole week full of events.
You'll find a whole lot to see, do, and enjoy when you book an RV in Invermere, so search for a suitable camper and then start planning your perfect vacation.
