Riggins is an '00 Toyota Tundra 4WD truck with a V8 4.7L engine who was raised in Alaska and built for adventure. Not only is he a dependable and rugged outfit, but he's also stacked with amenities for achieving all-around functional comfort during your travels. He started as a surf rig on Kodiak Island, made his way to Homer, and finally arrived in Anchorage. The covered, insulated truck bed is a modular camper conversion with custom woodwork and space for a full-sized mattress. A drawer under the sleeping/sitting space opens up to a large sink with functional faucet and double burner stove. These are fueled by a 15-gallon water resevoir and propane tank, respectively. Shelves, cubbies, and bulk storage live above the wheel wells for housing necessary items. Insulated removable panels cover the windows to block out light and trap heat when desired.Atop the cap shell is a top-of-the-line hardtop rooftop tent, the iKamper Skycamp 2.0. This tent boasts a comfy king-sized bed with black-out, water-resistant cloth construction that both keeps light out during Alaska's long summer days and heat in when it gets colder. Vents and a rechargeable fan cool the tent and allow it to breathe. A removable rain shell keeps the tent dry from precipitation. The hardtop shell makes setup and breakdown simple, and provides stability and protection against the elements. This project began as a way for my family to comfortably and functionally access our favorite adventure places in Alaska with minimal setup and breakdown. It has worked so well for us! My 8 year old and 1 year old both sleep so well, and my wife loves preparing meals with her kitchen setup. We hope you find it just as useful and enjoyable to minimize hassle and maximize use of your time in Alaska. But be prepared: tourists may mistake you for an Alaskan in this rig!*Note: 4 of 6 seats in the cab of Riggins are not designed for taller people. iKamper mattress is 83" x 77", and truck bed mattress is 72" x 53".Ce qui est inclus**Note: Items included are not Add-Ons. RecommandationsWe have so many ideas! Too many to list. But some quick recommendations:Join iOverland, Campendium, and/or the Dyrt for ideas of places to boondock or camp. Alaska has plenty of campgrounds but is also openly available to camping on public land in non-designated campgrounds (glacial riverbed access, dirt roads, and BLM land).Hotspots to visit include glacier/mountaintop/beach hikes, ocean view drives, Denali viewpoints, and fishing spots.Yes, we have the lowdown on so many activities and events, from adventures with kids to overnight backpacking hikes in the remotes of AK to local gatherings in off-grid locations. You are welcome to message me with a description of your ideal trip. I'm happy to get back to you ASAP with local advice to maximize your trip!Autres points à signalerWe have available Add-Ons for you convenience. If you want to keep the rental price down while freeing up space in the back of the truck, this gives you the option to go without the extras. BUT we also want to keep you from having to pack or check luggage for all of these amenities, and so we've made sure to stock up on items that you probably need for camping. If there is something we can provide that is not on this list that will get you right to the adventures, we're here to help! Suggestions are also welcome for items needed but not available from us. Just let us know.

Hi! We are the Weatherly's, and we're excited to be involved with Outdoorsy. We have 2 kids (Steele and Juniper) and puppy (Copper). We thrive when we are camping and exploring, and this lifestyle keeps us rooted in what really matters as we spend family time together. Ashlee and I have lived all over the country, but we started traveling family-style when we were living in Steamboat Springs, CO. Our favorite trips were to Moab, UT, and Jackson Hole, WY, where exploring is undeniably pinnacle (even when you live in Ski Town USA). We moved back to Alaska in 2019, where our favorite towns to visit are McCarthy, Homer, Hope, Miller's Landing, and Talkeetna. Our favorite camp locations are at Hidden Lake, the Russian River, the Homer Spit, and the river bed flowing from Exit Glacier in Seward.

Q.How difficult is it to set up and close the rooftop tent?
R.
There is a learning curve for opening and closing the Skycamp 2.0, and I'll attach a link to an instructional video below. Once you do it once, it's not too difficult thereafter! I did have a Tepui Autana 4 tent that was much more difficult to manipulate, and I don't miss zippers or climbing on top of my truck. I have included a footstool for reaching the tent locks as well as ratcheting hand clamps to make this process even easier. https://youtu.be/7mL6j1NQ6qs https://youtu.be/Xyrcupwm0SU

Q.How do I operate the camp stove?
R.
To fuel the camp stove, you may attach the ubiquitous Coleman 1lb- or similar- propane tank to the stove attachment. Alternatively, we offer a (more eco-friendly) refillable 5lb propane tank as an add-on that comes with a fitted attachment hose. Keeping food contained instead of on/around the grill burners while cooking will make cleanup MUCH easier, which is why we've provided cookware sized to cover the face of the grill. The sink is sized for cleaning this large cookware.

Q.How do I convert the truck bed from bed to sofa (or vice versa)?
R.
Half of the truck bed's constructed platform folds into a 24x24x4 cube in an accordion manner, opening up space to sit and rest the feet. Simply unfold it to complete the full-sized bed, or keep it tucked away to allow for additional storage space.

Q.Are the tent and truck bed safe and secure for sleeping overnight?
R.
Good news: the camping culture is Alaska is generally very safe. But the tailgate to the truck as well as the cap shell door are secure and lockable with the provided keys. An interior latch allows you to open the cap shell door from the inside. Make sure to keep the keys with you to unlock the tailgate at that point. While you are welcome to lock the zipper(s) on the rooftop tent, it is unfortunately not considered "secure". It is, however, nicely elevated above wildlife!
