Our rental of the 2013 ACE from AJM Commercial was less than satisfactory, I would not recommend renting this RV unless AJM makes significant repairs (see below) AJM should not have rented this vehicle for long trips in its current condition. It is spacious and we had a lot of fun travelling with the whole family in it. However, it did not function as advertised. Of course there will be some issues with a 7 year old vehicle, and it wont drive like new. But this one needed a lot of work to keep running as we went along. I would have expected a vehicle in this condition to be rented at $140/day, instead of $200, to make up for the stress of maintaining it throughout the trip – because it can’t compare to renting a newer version of the same model.
Here are our issues:
Cleanliness on pick up:
Grimy dust on horizontal surfaces needed a thorough cleaning with wet wipes. Shower was not cleaned. Fridge was not cleaned, mold and grime in it, as well as many of the kitchen cabinets. The water fill hose and black water drain pipe were stored together, both reeked of sewage, required a lot of cleaning to be able to trust the water hose, (we stored them separately after that)
Driving:
Front shocks were blown at the outset of our trip and we spent a whole day of the trip finding a mechanic and getting them replaced. (AJM covered the cost of the repair – and gave us a free day for our time – thank you!) This made the ride smoother, BUT…
Springs on all the wheels are completely worn out, so the ride is very bumpy, the steering wheel and the whole dashboard shake with every good crack in the road (this makes driving a little tense all the time). The constant shaking was the cause of other issues:
Dashboard stereo fell INTO the dash multiple times, had to repair
Slide out motors failed twice during our trip: they are not secured in place and came loose and the gears slipped, each time requiring several hours of repair.
Fan cover on ceiling (for roof AC unit) fell off on first day, screws were stripped out, required remounting
