Discover West Palm Beach, FL

West Palm Beach sits near the northern end of the southeast Florida urban corridor that stretches from Port St. Lucie down to Miami and includes communities like Jupiter, Boynton Beach, Boca Raton, and Hollywood. This stretch of I-95 contains some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, which makes it popular with retirees and vacationers alike who want to escape the cold, wet weather of northern states.

Public transportation is not great, with buses operating somewhat infrequently. The system is suitable for short trips, but if you’re traveling between the many beaches in the area, it’s best to use your West Palm Beach motorhome rental to get there.

RV Parks Near West Palm Beach

There are fewer RV parks in the area than would be found in less touristy parts of the state. However, this is still a great place to go explore with your West Palm Beach rental RV and you won’t have too much trouble finding a place to park it.

The West Palm Beach - Lion Country Safari KOA has some nice amenities, including full hookups, gas or charcoal grills, and a pool that’s open year round. The campground is located 21 miles to the west of the beach near the town of Loxahatchee.

Another option for parking the motorhome rental near West Palm Beach is at the Palm Beach Traveler RV Park, 12 miles to the south of the city and just west of the airport. If you’re a golfer, there are a few good courses just a short distance away including Lost City and Winston Hills Golf Club. The John Prince Park campground is just a couple miles to the east of that and borders the beautiful Square Lake. The campground is surrounded by trails and is perfect for visitors that want to spend more time in nature.

Vacation Inn Resort is probably the closest park to the city at just eight miles to the north. Dyer Park and Winding Waters Natural Area are close by if you’d like to go for a hike or start the day with an invigorating run.

Exploring the City of West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach is a great place to rent an RV because it’s not quite as frenetic as some of the larger cities to its south, while still having plenty of attractions to keep you and your family entertained.

The Norton Museum of Arts, Danieli Art World Gallery, Black Pearl Fine Art Gallery, Red Gypsy Gallery, and Iconic Snobs Galleries are all great places to see classical and contemporary art pieces. The Ann Norton Sculpture Gallery is particularly unique with its abstract pieces and life-size humanoid forms created by the namesake artist. If you’re a car enthusiast, you’ll probably want to spend an hour or so at the Ragtop Museum, which has dozens of classic cars, all of which are for sale if you’re thinking about making a purchase.

Some of the best shopping in the city can be found at CityPlace, a pedestrian shopping mall with hundreds of retail stores, restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. Or head to the Palm Beach Outlet stores which have great prices on name brands like J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, and Steve Madden.

Temperatures (and humidity) in West Palm Beach can soar during the summer months, so you might want to consider cooling off at the nearby Rapids Water Park if you’re traveling during that time. It boasts two 27-story slides and a quarter-mile long lazy river ride, making it the perfect place to take the family on a steamy afternoon.

Getting Outside near West Palm Beach

When you book an RV in West Palm Beach, you’ll definitely want to spend some time at the beach. Juno Beach, North Palm Beach, Riviera Beach, Boynton Beach, and Delray Beach are all popular places to go for a swim or just enjoy some light reading under the shade of an umbrella. However, there’s also plenty of great outdoor attractions that don’t involve getting sand in your shorts.

The Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society is a favorite among both kids and adults. Approximately 190 species of animals from all over the world make their home here including tigers, bears, and dozens of bird species. You’ll also want to stop and smell the flowers at Mounts Botanical Garden, just west of the airport. The park has over 2,000 species of plant life and is a great place for a relaxing stroll.

While it’s not a particularly short drive in the West Palm Beach RV rental, both Everglades and Biscayne National Park are within a three-hour drive of West Palm Beach. Everglades is the third largest national park in the lower 48 states and is home to deer, crocodiles, panthers, and black bears. Many sections of the park are only accessible by boat, so be sure to look into renting one or taking a tour to get the full experience. Airboat tours are especially popular. Biscayne National Park is considerably smaller and consists of 15 miles of spectacularly beautiful coral reefs and islands just off the coast of Miami. Only the visitors center is accessible by land, so again, you’ll need a boat to see the rest of this beautiful park.

While these parks may not be that close to West Palm Beach, one of the best things about renting an RV is having the freedom to travel anywhere and explore areas that might be off limits to other travelers.
