We had the absolute best experience with Tin Can Travel Co. The van was exactly as pictured and ran perfectly. The owner was super responsive, helpful and so kind. We will definitely be renting this van again soon!

Absolutely fantastic! David (of Tin Can Travel) was extremely accommodating to my plans, and things couldn't have gone more smoothly getting picked up at the airport and meeting for drop off at my hotel. Great communication and instruction regarding all the vehicle's features. The rig itself is amazing and is outfitted with everything you might need - solar power, propane, water, camp chairs, bug spray, paper towels, broom - you name it! Can't recommend this vehicle or Tin Can Travel enough - and can't wait to get back to Texas and out in this VW again!

David and his van were awesome! Having driven plenty of Westfalias in the past, you can tell this Van was extremely well maintained. We had absolutely no issues on the road, and the small touches David included in the Van really made the trip. Having solar power on the van is an amazing touch given the amount of dry camping possible in Texas. I couldn't recommend this van enough to anyone looking to hit the road for a slow stroll around Texas with some beautiful stops along the way.

Everything was wonderful! David was real nice. I would recommend renting in the fall or summer so that you’re most comfortable since the air conditioner isn’t super powerful.

Absolute best experience! Vanagon drove like a champ and was fully decked with water, propane, and even pots and pans. I packed too much! Boy and doggo were extremely comfortable. Will be renting again.

Great little van. Feels like you're transported back into the 80's. Our 7 year old had a great time hanging in the pop-up area. Comes with a sink and propane stove. Just a heads-up there's no A/C (no problem for us in the spring). Chris was very responsive and throughout in how to work the van. We'll rent again!

I drove to Palo Duro State Park and this campervan got me there like a champ! It was fun to live my vanlife dreams for a few days, figuring out all the storage and convertible features in the van and setting everything up just so. Being able to cook on the stove and use a refrigerator were real perks, and the bed was cozy and comfortable. I also really enjoyed being able to bring along some old mixtapes and listen to them for the first time in years. Be prepared for some interior noise and to cruise in the slower highway lane, but overall the van was very reliable, practical, and fun to drive.

The van was fantastic for a trip to Bastrop State park. The van ran perfectly. We enjoyed listening to the tapes. All the details were including chairs, pots, pans, and utensils.

I have so many good things to say about our experience with David at Tin Can. His van is truly a classic and forces you to unplug, enjoy the simple in life that we have so easily forgotten, and to explore the open road. He had everything in the van we could possibly need for cooking, cleaning, privacy curtains, chairs for lounging, and more. He also was super thorough with explanations on the intricacies of an ‘84 beauty, so we felt so prepared handling her on our hill country road trip. David is the man and genuinely wants his customers to love the van, fall back in love with the simple things in life, and the outdoors. Thank you David! We will be back!

We really had fun camping in this Vanagon! My husband and I are tent campers, so this was our first experience renting an RV. The kitchen was very easy to use and came with just the right amount of supplies. Very comfortable bed and a nice awning. David with Tin Can Travels was super friendly and responsive and made sure to show us how to operate everything before we took off.

Very cool van. I’m amazed at how well the use of space was and the thing ran like a top. The cassette player with an array of classics was pretty nostalgic. I almost felt like a hippy on a road trip for a minute once we got on the backroads. My 5 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed our first 1 on 1 camping trip. I’m glad we chose the van to be home base.

We had a fantastic trip in "Janice!" Celebrated our 21st anniversary with a short road trip to the beach, complete with great tunes on cassettes (even some of our own mixed tapes!), cruising down the backroads, windows rolled down (you get used to the no AC easy enough), admiring the wildflowers, eating barbeque and ending up at the national seashore. Met lots of folks along the way because everyone was so interested in the van. It runs great, has fantastic extras (new frig, new tires, great awning) and super easy to set up and take down. We can't recommend this vehichle and Tin Can enough!

Owner was awesome, walked us though everything, was very accessible/reachable by phone for every question I had along the way. She (Janis) drove great! Heat worked fantastically when the night got cold. Everything mechanical was in working condition. Not to mention all the small talk it started and got us to meet so many new people. Will definitely be renting again!

From the start we had a very smooth communication. David was very nice and flexible and always reachable when we needed him. No issues with the key exchange at all. The car was like described, it had everything we need for our two weeks roadtrip through west texas. It is an old car with its small little quirks, but that is normal and part of the fun of an 30 year old car and David does his very best to keep it well maintained. We drove around 1500 miles without any problems.

We had such a blast with rental as I used it to drive up to Hamilton Pool and propose to my fiance. The communication was great, it was fun ride in prestine condition and only had small hick up in the heat but was handled tremendously fast and well.

The van was great. In great shape for a 1984 vehicle. This is all about the nostalgia and experience of the VW vanagon. It topped out at 65mph and does not have power steering. David was very responsive to my communications both before and during our trip.

David's VW Westfalia is a mobile dream! My wife, 9 month old son and I had a blast on our two night stay in the classic camper van. One of the little pleasures was breaking out all the little stowable amenities. Loft bed, stove, sink, fridge, table, lower bed, mosquito fly, curtains, and awning were all fun to tinker with during use. David was super helpful and responsive during the whole process and gave a great walk through of the vehicle before departing. I heartily recommend renting this piece of history which is sure to bring you a sense of boundless adventure.

This was great fun! What a great camper, spacious, really original. I made a short trip from Austin to Marfa and back through Big Bend.
Remember that it is an original 1984's vehicle. For me that was the reason to rent it, and it is in great shape. Do not expect high speeds, but hey, that is not why you would rent this right?
David is very helpfull and a great host. He picked me up in downtown Austin at the start, brougth me to the airport afterwards and was always available for help.
If you are looking for a great, original camper: Don't hesitate and go for it! Fun guaranteed.
