And yet, nearly 1 in 3 Americans don’t have a park close to home—that includes 28 million kids. And parks serving primarily communities of color are half the size of parks in majority white neighborhoods and serve five times more people per acre.
That’s why the Trust for Public Land is leading a coalition of more than 200 groups asking Congress to pass the Parks, Jobs, and Equity Act, a $500 million emergency investment to bring more parks to more people in more places. This investment could bolster local economies, improve park equity, and put parks in the communities that need them the most.

About the Parks, Jobs, and Equity Act
- The Trust for Public Land is leading a coalition of more than 200 groups in lobbying Congress to include $500 million as part of any future infrastructure package or recovery bill for parks.
- On March 9, U.S. Reps. Barragán, Turner, and Neguse introduced bipartisan legislation, called the Parks, Jobs, and Equity Act, in the U.S. House.
- This policy could save 100,000 at-risk jobs, create 8,000 new ones, and generate $1.37 billion in economic activity.
- Investing $500 million in local parks will have lasting benefits for public health.
- This emergency investment will also allow critical upgrades to our green space infrastructure and help offset the effects of climate change.
