Spring in Colorado usually sees both residents and visitors alike eager to take advantage of the warm weather and enjoy some time in the great outdoors. Unfortunately, the coronavirus has put a chink in travel plans nationwide, and Colorado, along with many other states across the country, has gone into lockdown mode. A statewide stay-at-home order is currently in place, meaning that travel throughout CO during the COVID-19 outbreak is prohibited. But what about going to the store, obtaining medical supplies, or simply taking Fido out for a hike? Am I allowed to travel within Colorado?
The statewide stay-at-home order put in place on April 1, 2020 states that only essential travel is allowed until further notice. As tempting as the spring weather and sunshine may be, Coloradans are urged not to retreat to their summer cabins just yet. If you live near a state park, you can still enjoy the trails, but common areas like campgrounds, playgrounds, and picnicking areas are currently closed, so, unfortunately, those RV camping trips scheduled for the near future will need to be put on the back burner. Those who live in the Denver metro area are asked not to journey into the surrounding mountain communities, and vice versa. But just because you may not be hitting the open road any time soon doesn’t mean you can’t find some alternative uses for your RV during the coronavirus outbreak. You could also use this downtime to give your rig the deep clean it has been needing, or work on upgrades and repairs that may be long overdue.
What constitutes essential travel?
So what does count as essential travel in Colorado during the coronavirus? Basically, don’t go anywhere you don’t need to go. As enticing as it may be to go visit your friends and family after going weeks without seeing them in person, it is best to keep your distance until further notice. But you don’t need to stay cooped up inside with the doors locked and shutters closed. Some travel is still allowed, and essential businesses — from grocery stores and pharmacies to banks and auto repair services — remain open. You can still get outside and soak in the sunshine from your backyard, or take a walk through your neighborhood, because, let’s face it, nature is good for our mental and physical health! Just make sure you adhere to social distancing protocols whenever you leave the house. When will Colorado travel restrictions be lifted?
Much is uncertain about how long the coronavirus outbreak will last, and for that reason, it is difficult to predict when things might start to go back to normal. The current stay-at-home order will last at least through the remainder of the month, and could possibly be extended (as it has been in the past). As long as the COVID-19 outbreak continues and the stay-at-home order is in place, traveling within Colorado will remain prohibited unless it is considered essential. One thing is certain, however — whenever the Colorado travel restrictions are lifted, you’ll be able to rent an RV and head to your favorite parks and campgrounds again.
