Owners of the week: Alison and Erik Abbott

Outdoorsy owners Alison and Erik Abbott are helpers at heart, and helping people by renting their RV out just makes sense for them. “One of the best rental experiences we’ve had was from a renter who was displaced by the fires here in California,” Alison shares. “It was last minute, and she had hardly any of her own belongings. It felt amazing to be able to help someone in that time of need and she was a great renter.”

While their RV has now helped a number of families make amazing memories, Alison and Erik didn’t know it had that power going in. However, it didn’t take too long before they saw the potential. “I had seen an advertisement for Outdoorsy and — after a lot of convincing — got Erik on board with renting it out,” Alison tells us. “After the first rental, he was hooked!”

“It took only a few days after our listing was posted on Outdoorsy to get our first booking, and it was great,” Alison recalls. “We have made over $16,000 on this unit alone just since May 2021. Our advice for aspiring RV rental business owners would be, go for it. The rental business is time-consuming and does take a lot of hard work, but it is worth it. We have created a business so viable that I retired from my former profession and now rent RVs full-time!”

Yes, the Abbotts’ rental business helps families by providing them shelter in their time of need or allowing them to make memories on vacation. That said, the couple also uses their business to help others in another way. “We currently have thirteen RVs and we are adding more every month,” Alison explains. “We own three of the units and the rest are consignments.

“My husband served one year in Afghanistan recently, and upon his return we had several military personnel contact us to rent out their units. We feel honored to represent our active, retired, and veteran community, and we really just fell into it. Some of our active duty consignee clients don’t reside in our immediate area; they’re deployed and count on this income for their family. Outdoorsy has made it possible for us to grow our business and support our military community in a way we never could have imagined.”

Alison and Erik tell us they never could have created such an amazing business and helped so many people without Outdoorsy. “I would recommend Outdoorsy to a friend without question,” says Alison. “If a first-time owner were to ask me what platform to use when starting out, it would always be Outdoorsy. The support they provide owners is outstanding and they assist you with marketing right away. You get real one-on-one support with them.”
