Owner of the Week: Rebekah Lawrence

Owner Rebekah Lawrence is surrounded by RVing. Therefore, it only made sense for her family to purchase an RV of their own. “I have wonderful childhood memories in an RV with my family,” she tells us. “All of our friends have RVs. We have two young boys and thought it would be a good way to vacation with our family and friends.”

One annual trip, in particular, is an absolute blast and definitely makes RV ownership worthwhile. “We have a yearly ‘Endless Summer’ trip where about 40 of our friends get together and camp for 3 to 4 nights,” Rebekah shares. “The adults are way outnumbered by the kids, so as you can imagine, we take over the RV resort. We have shirts and hats and drink koozies made. Every year is a blast with wonderful memories made.”

That said, the first RV the Lawrence family invested in was…not everything they had hoped for. “The first trailer we bought only slept two or three. Six months and another baby later, it was too small,” she explains. “We had a laundry list of things we needed in the next trailer: bunk beds, a pop-out, and a master bedroom with a walk-around bed, to name a few.”

Fortunately, Rebekah and her family eventually found what they were looking for in their 2013 Keystone Springdale bunkhouse travel trailer, which they quickly snatched up. “I didn’t know we would rent it out when we bought it,” she says. “We decided it would be good extra income and keep everything in working order. I had no idea I would love renting so much!”

Why does Rebekah love renting so much? According to her, it’s a combination of the Outdoorsy platform and her wonderful renters. “I feel safe renting through Outdoorsy,” she tells us. “I have been very blessed to have wonderful renters. There is a lot of communication before and during the bookings, so you get a feel for who you are working with. Having the deposit and insurance puts my mind at ease, in case anything were to go wrong.”

Rebekah makes all the decisions for her business and knows how to do every single task required to run an RV business all on her own. We are seeing woman-run rental businesses such as hers more and more often, and we love it. But what does Rebekah think about it? “It is definitely empowering to know I can do it all myself,” she shares. “It feels great to be able to tow something so large and maneuver it into a spot. At campsites, women are giving me the thumbs-up and cheering, and some of the looks I get are priceless!”

Despite the fact that Rebekah can do it all herself, there are times when her husband does step in to help. “I really enjoy working with my husband and going on mini road trips to deliver and pick up,” she says. “We get to see camping spots we would have never seen before, and then book them ourselves. He lets me run the business and does what I ask, so it works out well.”

Rebekah’s advice to women who want to run their own business? “Ultimately, you have to want to do it yourself, and then just do it,” she explains. “I used to see women pulling large trailers on the freeway, and I would think, ‘She’s a badass. I want to be a badass!’ I hope there are women out there that see me and are encouraged to do the same.”
