What You Need to Know as a First Time Owner

When you take the leap to list your RV with Outdoorsy, you’ll be turning the key to a fun and powerful engine. Like many other peer-to-peer marketplaces out there, Outdoorsy is your ticket to sharing something you love (your camper in this case) and getting paid for it.

Your camper is probably like a beloved member of the family to you — after all, it has been your chariot to create memories, explore paths uncharted, and to retreat from the chaos of life.

When you decide to share your rig with the world, you’ll likely feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. Don’t worry; you’re not alone! Nearly all of our owners would tell you they felt the same way when they first started. We’ve got an amazing process and community here at Outdoorsy that has helped owners just like you rent out their RVs without the stress.

Here’s what you need to know as a first-time owner on Outdoorsy.

Outdoorsy is the largest and most trusted RV marketplace.

And we’ve gotten here by building an extraordinary community of people who dig the RVing lifestyle. We take care of folks and help you get the security, peace of mind, and income you crave when renting out your camper.

It’s free to list on Outdoorsy.

Listing your camper on Outdoorsy won’t cost you a dime, and we only get paid when you do. What we get paid varies depending on your booking volume. Here’s how that part works:

For Outdoorsy hosts in the U.S. and Canada, host fees are calculated on a tier fee system that is based on their total booking value for the previous 12-month period. That means the fee you’ll be charged is based on how much you earned on Outdoorsy in the last year. That ‘year’ is a rolling 12-month period, meaning we look at your host earnings over the last 12 months from ‘today’.

The ‘total booking value’ is calculated as the total value of items that you’re paid for as a host — rental amount, add-ons, prep fee, etc. Total booking value does not include the cost of the protection package, taxes, or host and guest fees.

Once you make it into a tier with a lower host fee, you’ll be locked in and won’t move back into a higher fee tier.

Here are the tiers with the host fee percentage for each:

  • 25% for new hosts or hosts with a total booking value of $0-$20,000 in the last 12 months
  • 22% for hosts with a total booking value of $20,001-$34,999 in the last 12 months
  • 20% for hosts with a total booking value of $35,000 or more in the last 12 months

Getting started is easy.

To get started as an Outdoorsy owner, you’ll simply need to create a listing on our platform. Be sure to include lots of great photos and an awesome listing description to make your rig pop.

We’ve got you covered with industry-leading insurance.

All rentals on the Outdoorsy platform are covered by state minimum liability and up to $300,000 in comprehensive and collision coverages. This is included at no cost to you as an RV owner on our platform.

We want to make sure you can sleep soundly while your rig is out on the road!

You rent to who you want when you want.

Want to take your RV on vacation for a month? No problem — you can easily control your camper’s availability from your Outdoorsy owner account.

We carefully screen all renters on our platform to make sure their driving record checks out. We also have a rating system in place where other owners rate our renters to help you make a more informed decision.

But the bottom line is that you retain total control of your camper, and we’ll never penalize you for turning down a rental request.

We’ve got your back.

Our RV owners are the mojo that makes this whole community work. That’s why we go the extra mile to make sure you get quick answers to questions and that your RV listing is all it can be.

You can contact our support team anytime, and we’ve also got an awesome group full of veteran Outdoorsy owners who’d love to help you be all you can be. You can join our Outdoorsy RV Owner Community whether you’re already renting out your RV or simply exploring the idea.

Whether you rent out one RV or one-hundred, you’re welcome here.

Outdoorsy owners run the gamut — from folks who want to make extra cash with the family RV to others who are building the next RV empire.

The beauty of the Outdoorsy community is that there’s a place for everyone here. Rather than a bland fleet of rental RVs that some companies have, our marketplace is as diverse as our owners — and that’s what we love about it.
