The Best Parts of a KOA Stay

KOA stands for Kampgrounds of America, and they have a great reputation for higher-end, family-friendly camping. Here are several reasons to consider staying at a KOA this year.

Quality and consistency

When you’re traveling to new places, there are a lot of factors to consider. When you’re camping, your RV is usually just a means to end, and you’ll mostly be choosing your campground for the location. But spending hours researching all of the local campgrounds can be exhausting and frustrating.

KOAs have three levels of campgrounds—Journey, Holiday, and Resort—and at every level you can expect certain standards of cleanliness and quality, not to mention the amenities which vary from place to place. By choosing a KOA, you can have a reasonable expectation of a clean and beautiful campground that will be well-kept and focused on customer service.

A great place for families

KOAs cater to families and welcome them with open arms. Especially when you’re staying at a Holiday or Resort KOA, which could have amenities from an on-site food option to a jumping pillow or a mini-golf course, you can expect activities as well as just a friendly attitude that will make you feel safe and comfortable staying there.

KOAs are in great locations

My husband and I spent two weeks traveling Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, camping at KOAs along the way. KOAs can be found throughout North America, whether you’re visiting the beach, a national park, or an amusement park. KOAs are often in highly desirable locations, getting you closer to the action than other campgrounds might.

Save with Value Kard rewards

Want to save 10 percent on your next KOA campground stay? Definitely purchase a Value Kard. For $30, you’ll see the savings within a week or so of camping, and you can earn points to redeem for cash off future stays.

The Value Kard gives you additional perks as you spend more, including flexibility to change your dates or location. I definitely recommend it if you love KOAs.

After spending about five months working at a KOA, and having stayed at several KOAs in the U.S. and Canada, there’s a lot of benefits to trying a KOA.
