By now you probably know Outdoorsy as the place to rent RVs and set out on an epic road trip. We built this place because we love nothing more than helping people rediscover a connection with nature.
And for a time, the way to do that here at Outdoorsy was to snag an RV and roll out.
But some of us want to connect with the outdoors and have home-like amenities without having to drive a rig along the spaces in between.
That’s why we’ve grown Outdoorsy to include a smattering of alternative accommodations just in time for summer. These are things like stationary RVs, delivered RVs, glamping tents, and more that open the door to the outdoors in ways fit for everyone.
RVs For Rent Near You
Stationary rentals are a splendid summer option
RVing is a blast — but summer can sometimes be so much of a rush that you just want to get to your vacay spot and start relaxing.
You’re still the outdoorsy type though, so you want something more than a hotel or BNB. Let’s dig in to see the different options for staying stationary while still getting out there.
Stationary RV rentals
This is where RV delivery gets as easy as ordering up a pizza. Over 60% of the RV owners on our platform offer delivery.
We even have a filter on our site for deliverable RVs.
The benefits of having an RV delivered to you are many. First, you’ll save a bundle on insurance because you don’t have to pay for coverage over the road.
Second, it allows you to get all the benefits of camping without the stress and time of driving a big vehicle to your destination.
And third — your vacation gets started more quickly. Our owners are experienced RVers who can get your camper unhitched and set up in a flash.
That means you can spend your time s’more cooking instead of sewer hose connecting.
RV Delivery
We’re cheating a bit with this one, since you still have the option to drive, but it’s a stationary-ish choice that we felt warranted a mention here.
Let’s say you don’t want to drive a big RV to that family reunion but you do want to be able to drive it around to a neighboring campsite.
In this case, you could still get the RV delivered and set up at the far-away campground so you don’t have to drive a big vehicle a big distance, but you’ll still have a mobile option when you arrive.
And yes, we have a filter for that too.
Glamping — Luxury stays in the outdoors
Glamping (a combo term for glamorous camping) is a way to travel that combines home-like amenities with outdoor accommodations like yurts, tiny homes, luxury canvas tents, and more. Check out this guide for a basic overview of glamping.
And here are examples of the alternative accommodations you’ll find out there:
Luxury tents
This ain’t your grandpa’s tent. These things are popping up at RV parks and campgrounds nationwide and feature plush beds and hotel-quality sheets. They can even feature built-in kitchenettes and private bathrooms.
Take Outdoorsy Bayfield for example — this Outdoorsy owned spot right by Durango and the San Juans offers luxury tents that have private porches, closets, kitchenettes, private bathrooms, and other just-like-home amenities.
But unlike home, this spot features pristine streams rolling outside your front door and the San Juan Mountains as your morning coffee view.
Yurts
Yurts are structures generally made from wool felt draped on a wooden frame. These sturdy structures have a cultural history dating back thousands of years.
Fast forward to modern day where Yurts have become an outdoor accommodation that’s a staple at many luxury glamping spots.
For example, if you find yourself searching for a stay in California, Outdoorsy Stays is our new platform that features luxury outdoor accommodations like Yurts all over the state.
Tiny Homes and Cabins
The Tiny House Movement has led to a hospitality trend where many campgrounds now feature this as a stay option.
These spots feature solid amenities with the added benefit of (usually) remote locations. Take Outdoorsy Yosemite for example — this RV resort and campground sits on a private lake 18 miles outside of Yosemite National Park. It features ‘tiny’ homes that can comfortably sleep families with kiddos thanks to built-in bunk beds.
Outdoorsy’s Stays platform also features tiny homes for rent around California.
The beauty of tiny homes is that they allow you to have a unique and fully stocked stay in harmony with nature.
Unique outdoor stays
The sky is literally the limit when it comes to alternative outdoor accommodations this summer. Take this treehouse as an example — it’s a luxury experience in the air that overlooks Monterey Bay.
And then there’s this Harry Potter House that brings the outdoors into one of the hippest spots we’ve ever seen.
Other luxury outdoor stays include things like Hobbit Houses, vintage Airstreams, geodesic domes, and so much more.
If you’re here, the chances are strong that you crave outdoor connection. But that doesn’t automatically mean you want to drive an RV cross country to find your nature zen. That’s why we have grown up over the years to include stationary summer accommodations that feature all the things and still let you be one with momma nature.
